Late 19th - early 20th century kilim from north-west Iran
This kilim is a very good example of the weaving of this region.
The wool is very tight and the patterns perfectly executed, with a lot of finesse and irregular zigzags in the borders that add fantasy to the ensemble.
Very solid, perfect for a large entrance or corridor.
The kilims of the Qazvin region were woven by tribes members of the Shahsavan confederation (or "friends of the Shah") who settled around the town.
They were influenced in their weaving by the Kurds and other neighbouring groups.
The wools used are medium in size and very tightly woven, and the weavings are generally very sophisticated with a rigorous composition.
These weavings are often on brown backgrounds, with red, blue, beige and ochre motifs.

Grease stains: soak up as much grease as possible with paper towels or terre de Sommières.
